Distraught.
Beaten down.
Was unclear about my next steps.
You see, I had concocted this elaborate plan to get the attention of my business mentor, Ramit Sethi, by making my experiences with him a prominent portion of my #1 bestselling book.
I thought…
“If I can get my book to rank, he’ll see I’m legit.
“Then, when he hears that he’s mentioned in the book, of course he’ll read it.
“And then of course he’ll want to connect with me!
“CHILD’S PLAY!”
Well, as I’m sure you’ve derived from email subject headline, that was not the case.
I had a ton of people reach out to him and show him my book.
(Which, by the way, moves past the attention grabbing intro of “I’m in love” into some actually really cool and sophisticated analysis of his teachings…so like, maybe the whole “stranger danger” thing would cancel out?)
What I’m trying to say is that all this work and nothing came from it.
All I wanted to do was connect with him.
Be in the same room.
And, the reason why was because I was desperate for answers.
And desperate for connections.
Now, 3-4 years later, I’m in a much different place.
I could totally afford to go to his Mastermind meetup.
And, Ramit has actually acknowledged my presence on Instagram a few times.

But, I think back about that experience all the time.
I wanted SO BADLY to connect with my mentors.
To learn from them.
And to leverage their network.
And, I vowed that as my business grew, I would gather people.
And gather people often.
Give them an opportunity to connect with me.
Learn what I know.
And leverage my network.
I know the power that comes when you gather in a room of forward-thinking individuals.
I know the clarity it brings.
I know the strength is cements and the determination it lights inside of your soul.
Getting into the room with top performers is essential if you want to be a top performer yourself.
Which is why I can hardly wait until tomorrow.
