⏰ DON’T GIVE TIME TOO MUCH POWER

I used to fall victim to time.
I used to think that success came from “paying your dues” and “putting in the time.”

And though there are merit to those things, there is something infinitely more powerful than time:

It is YOU.

Time doesn’t change you.
Only YOU change you.

Once this concept sunk into my mind, I no longer cared that I was “only 28.” Being 28 was neither an advantage or a disadvantage. It was simply a fact.

Once this concept sunk into my mind, I no longer felt like making $50K in a DAY was unreachable because “that was how much I used to make in a YEAR.” Making that money was no longer a matter of time. But of choices, decisions, systems, and processes. All put together – not by TIME – but by me.

Once this concept sunk into my mind, I realized how WRONG I had been in the past. How SMALL I had been thinking. And playing!

I served a mission for my church in Los Angeles. But, before I ever made it to LA, they sent us to a training center where we learned Spanish and how to teach about Jesus and x, y, z.

We were paired with companions who were our teammate in everything we did: teaching lessons, studying, eating lunch, etc..

It was an incredible experience, but overwhelming to say the least.

After we had been there for 36 hours, one of our teachers asked us to go around the room and just check in: how were we doing, what were we thinking…

My companion started.

I remember she said, “When I first got to the MTC, I was stubborn and didn’t want to learn. Now, everything about me has changed.”

I remember listening to her and almost scoffing.
I thought, “You’ve been here for 36 HOURS! That’s it! How could you have changed so drastically in just 36 HOURS?!”

I certainly didn’t see the change in her.
So, she had to have been delusional, right?!
Or just telling herself things to make her feel better.

In hindsight, I absolutely applaud her.
And hate myself for how I responded to her.

She understood that she could CHANGE however and whenever SHE WANTED to change.

Perspectives and viewpoints and new trajectories can become permanent in an INSTANT.

You don’t have to wait months or years until people are ready for you to change. Or comfortable with you changing.

Being who you want to be is not a matter of time.
It’s a matter of CHOICE.
It’s all up to YOU.

We give time too much power.
And it’s time to take it back. 💪🏼
