Stanford Study Shows Why Design Is Essential For Sales

Yesterday, I posted about my Internet Marketing journey and mentioned briefly that I’m about to drop a course next week on how to be an expert Clickfunnels designer, all without coding or Photoshop or any prior design skills.

Well, A LOT of people have reached out to me via messenger saying things like:

“Do customers even care about design?”

“Can you still sell without good design?”

“How important would you say it is for me to learn this skill?

The questions are still coming this morning/afternoon so, in an effort to most efficiently answer people’s questions, I thought I’d write a post about it:

//
>>>HOW GREAT DESIGN INCREASES YOUR SALES AND CREDIBILITY<<<

★Fun Fact #1: Your website’s visitors determine the credibility of your brand within 0.5 seconds. (<from Stanford University study)

★Fun Fact #2: 90% of what they’re judging has to do with your website’s design. (<still from Stanford study)

The person leading that study was a professor named B.J. Fogg.

He said, “Looking good is often interpreted as being good – and being credible.

“Since the 1940s, social psychology research has shown that physically attractive sources (usually people) have been perceived to be credible sources.

“This is basic human processing bias – LOOKING GOOD IS BEING GOOD – also seems to hold true for evaluating the credibility of websites, especially since design look is highly noticeable.”

//
★Fun Fact #3: Humans have been communicating for nearly 30,000 years.

★Fun Fact #4: But, written language has only been around for 3,700 years.

So, our brains are naturally hardwired to process visual information better and faster than text.

In fact, our brains actually process visual information 60,000x faster than text, which checks out when you realize that people only read about 28% of copy on web pages.

//
★Fun Fact #5: There’s a man named Dr. Brent Coker who studied the impact of attractive websites on human behavior.

★Fun Fact #6: This guy is brilliant.

He says, “As aesthetically oriented humans, we’re psychologically hardwired to trust beautiful people. AND THE SAME GOES FOR WEBSITES.

“Our offline behavior and inclinations translate to our online existence.”

NOW HERE’S THE REAL KICKER:

“Websites that are more attractive…create a greater feeling of trustworthiness and professionalism in consumers.”

//
★Fun Fact #7: Salesmen are 43% more successful in getting people to buy when they use visual aids.

★Fun Fact #8: The positive effect that great design has on consumer’s buying habits is INTERNATIONAL.

For example, there was a study done in Singapore.

In this study they found that participants were drawn to cleaning companies with green and a lot of WHITE space in their design because that matched their idea of what is natural, fresh, and clean.

In contrast, these participants rejected cleaning companies that branded with dark colors because it appeared cluttered. Which is just honestly not what you want from a cleaning company.

//
★Fun Fact #9: My company is called Automate Academy.

★Fun Fact #10: I help people to automate their sales.

A lot of times, people will come to me and ask me to help automate their sales.

We set up a phone call and I ask them to show me their website or funnel.

After sending me the link, they say, “I just don’t understand why no is buying.”

I look at it and think, “OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE UGLIEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. NO WONDER NO ONE IS BUYING.”

(I don’t say this though. Usually say something like, “Yep…we could definitely find a way to optimize this…” LOL)

You see, it’s hard to automate your sales if you can’t even get someone to stay on your site long enough to see what you’re selling.

And, if they think your SITE is ugly, just imagine what they think about the quality of the products you’re selling!

I mean, I’ve seen a ton of websites where I’m like, “THERE IS NO WAY IN HECK THAT I WOULD EVER GIVE THEM MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION.”

If your site is ugly, people bounce.
They’re out of there.

A design facelift can help you not only increase your credibility (which increases your sales), but it also allows you to compete with the big companies.

If you look the part, you can play the part.

//
★Fun Fact #11: This exact thing happened last week.

★Fun Fact #12: Gave my friend Becky’s site a ‘design facelift.’

The results?

She messaged me a few days later, after putting up the funnel and running traffic to it:

“Hey lady, what all does your course cover? My business took a 90-degree turn with your redesign and I’m interested in being a JV to promote it.”

//
Long story short?

If your funnel is ugly, you’ve already lost the sales game.

★DESIGN. FREAKING. MATTERS.★

(^hope this answers a lot of your guy’s questions about web/funnel design. DM me/comment if you have more questions.)
